Q UESTING TO FINALLY COMBINE the features most sought after in any center cockpit, Jeanneau has produced the 42 CC with stellar accommodations in a strikingly attractive performance hull. Her layout
includes an owners suite and huge head, sumptuous main salon with lounging area, captains chairs and a guest cabin with second head. In the best sense of yacht construction, the 42 CC is highly finished in varnished teak, quality fittings and the traditional Jeanneau method of crafting the finest production yachts afloat.

Center or aft cockpit?

Pluses:

  • This configuration gives you a huge, aft stateroom with an Island bed, lots of storage and luxury for the primary cabin.
  • You make use of the space under the cockpit for additional living space. A well designed center cockpit often has the room of a 10% longer boat. Note especially on this new design the long waterline and ample beam--you really need to compare the room to a 47' aft cockpit!
  • The cockpit is more inboard making it easy to enclose with bimini and/or side curtains.

Minuses:

  • The cockpit is smaller. However, the boat is configured for fewer people-- generally 2 couples or a couple with children so you don't need as large a cockpit. Further, the aft deck is big enough for setting out folding chairs while in port or at anchor.
  • The cockpit located further forward gets more spray in adverse weather. True, that's why we have included the spray shield window. This combined with a bimini and connected forward clear panel provides complete protection when needed.
  • The ladder has more steps. Yes it does. A trade off. Want to eliminate the ladder? Try a catamaran.

In the end, perhaps, all boats are trade offs. Jeanneau has intelligently addressed them and, I feel, now offers one of the best of the breed! Check it out and see if you don't agree.

Overall...

The Jeanneau 42 CC is strongly built for offshore sailing. She incorporates a Kevlar reinforced hull, structural stringers (not pan linings) and perimeter bonded bulkheads, among other features, to insure the utmost in structural strength and rigidity. The Jeanneau represents your best choice in a moderate displacement, good all-around performance cruiser.

On deck...

She features wide walk around areas with inboard shrouds promoting close sheeting for going to windward and easy access forward. Even the little details are taken care of, such as installing the windlass in a protected compartment to protect it from harmful salt water spray and to clear the deck area for easy sail handling. A bonus, as mentioned on the 42 CC is the large aft deck suitable for deck chair lounging in port.

The cockpit is extremely generous (for a center cockpit) with high back rests and with a table incorporated with the pedestal. All controls are led to the forward end of the cockpit.
Sail handling is a breeze with included furling genoa and in-mast, furling mainsail. Even the sheet winches are located forward so that, with an autopilot, one person can completely manage and even tack the boat from the protection of a dodger. Now you can have many of the advantages of a pilot house with none of the disadvantages!
